Slitterhead

Slitterhead: new details on characters and abilities

In recent hours, Bokeh Game Studio, led by Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of Silent Hill, has released several new details for Slitterhead, their first game set to launch on November 8 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). The details include the characters “Rarity” Julee and Alex, their abilities, and the stage “Kowlong Slums”.

Below, you can see all the new details about Slitterhead:

  • Characters

Among the humans, there are those who share a strong bond with the protagonist, Hyoki, known as Rarities. Today, the two “Rarity” characters, Alex and Julee, that Hyoki meets throughout the story have been revealed:

Julee

Severely injured and on the brink of death, Julee is saved by Hyoki and becomes the first “Rarity”. Shrouded in mystery, she wears a hood and a mask, wielding deadly blood claws to fiercely eliminate the Slitterhead that threaten humanity.

Alex

A mysterious figure known as the “Hunter”, he conceals his identity behind a full-face helmet and wields a shotgun while riding his motorcycle, relentlessly pursuing Slitterhead from the shadows. By day, he is a skilled surgeon operating in the Kowlong underworld.

  • Skills

Rarity Skills

Each rarity has various skills that can trigger powerful moves during battles, while some provide beneficial effects just by possessing them.

Active Skills

These are the skills assigned to a character. They can be activated using the ability button. Some require the depletion of Blood Level (HP) to unleash powerful attacks, while others need to use spirit power to activate useful abilities, such as recovering Blood Level (HP).

Some Active Skills can be carried over and used even when controlling normal humans. As the game progresses, players will have the option to select Rarities to accompany them on each mission (some missions can only be played with specific Rarities). The active abilities of the chosen rarities will be available for use when controlling normal humans, becoming “common skills”.

Julee’s Abilities

  • Revive All (Active Skill) Increases blood in the character’s body. For a predetermined time, it continuously recovers Blood Level (HP). Additionally, it heals surrounding humans and instantly revives those on the brink of death.
  • Sonic Claws (Active Skill) Uses blood claws to create a shockwave forward. Hold the ability button to charge, then release to unleash the shockwave.
  • Blood Ripper (Common Ability) Launches a small blood blade. Inflicts “slowing effect” while dealing damage. Enemies hit suffer a movement speed reduction for a predetermined time, making it effective for chases.

Alex’s Abilities

  • Blood Ripper (Common Ability) Creates a gravitational field with blood that pulls enemies and civilians in the area toward its centre.
  • Bloody Blast (Active Skill) Shoots blood projectiles from a shotgun. Hold the ability button to increase power and range.
  • Time Bomb (Common Ability) Creates explosive blood with a timer on the host. Detonates after a set time, damaging the surrounding environment. The user dies (near death if they are a Rarity).

Passive Abilities

These abilities grant their effects simply by being possessed. Enhancements range from increasing Blood Level (HP), improving weapon durability, to boosting recovery abilities when taking damage, giving a significant advantage in combat.

Upgrading Rare Bodies with Skill Tokens

Throughout the game, players can collect skill tokens to enhance the various abilities of each rarity. This allows you to upgrade the Rarities before tackling missions. As you progress through the game, you will unlock new abilities, meaning the choices of which Rarities to prioritize will have a significant impact on the gaming experience.

Possession Mode

By holding the Possession button, time passes slowly, allowing you to carefully choose a target to possess. Additionally, you can look around the environment and move in a soul state.

Infiltration

Unlike open streets, in some cases it’s necessary to infiltrate buildings where enemies are lurking. During infiltration, players will need to hide and avoid being detected, using Possession mode to explore the surrounding environment. It is also possible to use Possession mode to stealthily navigate, evading surveillance and advancing deep into enemy territory.

Presence: Detecting Slitterhead

Enemies can be detected as “presence.” Presence is perceived as a flow of air. Move the camera to check the flow and head in that direction.

Sightjack

If you get close enough to an enemy, you can take a peek into their field of vision. Using the features of the environment, you can guess their general location, whether they are in an alley or on a rooftop, etc.

  • Stage

Kowlong Slums

Once known as an ungoverned wasteland beyond the law’s reach, this massive slum is now slated for demolition within a few years, resulting in the forced eviction of its residents. However, many refuse to leave, having nowhere else to go.
