A Galaxy A series model was used to run macOS High Sierra through emulation

According to new information revealed in the past few hours, a Reddit user managed to run macOS High Sierra on a nameless Galaxy A smartphone. The specific model of the Galaxy A was not disclosed by the Redditor “Aggressive_Level7574,” but they provided concrete evidence that Samsung’s mid-range devices can boot macOS High Sierra. The post’s title reads “macOS High Sierra on a Samsung Galaxy,” suggesting that the person who attempted this on an Android smartphone faced numerous failed attempts. In the comments under the post and the image, it’s noted that macOS High Sierra was run via emulation using Vectras VM, and even though Apple’s operating system is now seven years old, it’s still an impressive feat.

One thing mentioned by the user is that Samsung DeX is not supported on a Galaxy A smartphone, meaning it isn’t possible to project macOS High Sierra onto an external monitor. However, DeX is supported on Samsung’s premium offerings, so it is definitely possible to use Vectras VM on a recent flagship like the Galaxy S24 Ultra and try to boot macOS High Sierra again. After that, they could try again using DeX to see if they can use Apple’s old Mac update on a separate display.
