XDefiant: low numbers for the FPS, is Season 3 in trouble?

XDefiant, the “multiversal” free-to-play shooter from Ubisoft, which unites characters from various franchises of the French publisher (such as Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs) into a single FPS, may not have such a bright future, even facing the definitive shutdown of the servers. At least, this is what is circulating online, according to the report by Tom Henderson via Insider Gaming.

At its debut on console and PC, XDefiant reached the significant milestone of 8 million users in the first week of launch, while in the first days it hit 1 million unique monthly players. Three months after its release, according to leaks, the game is now struggling to even reach 20,000 concurrent users. But is there a chance to revitalize the shooter?

Apparently, Ubisoft has decided to wait for the arrival of Season 3 of XDefiant and see if the new content will manage to rekindle user interest, increasing the number of concurrent players once again. If this does not happen, the company may even decide to permanently shut down the game’s servers. Should this come to pass, according to Henderson, the failure of the FPS could lead to the dismissal of some members of the development studio (Ubisoft San Francisco).

Of course, for now these pieces of information should be considered just rumours.
