In a recent interview with GamesRadar regarding the development cycle of Dragon Age The Veilguard, creative director John Epler stated that BioWare “wanted to make sure this game was done right”, describing the action-RPG as “the best possible version”. According to Epler, the voice cast of the game has been working on it for five years, while creative director Ashley Barlow mentioned that there are 140,000 lines of dialogue recorded: 60,000 of these are just for the protagonist Rook, while each variant of the character (each played by a different actor) has about 15,000 lines of their own.
Recently, the voice actors who have voiced the various characters in the game were revealed, and yesterday at Comic-Con in San Diego, a panel dedicated to the characters was held, titled “Dragon Age – Meet The Heroic Companions of Thedas”.
“It takes a long time to record 700 characters, 80,000 lines, or 140,000 lines with all the Rooks. It takes time to do it well”, Barlow continued. It is worth noting that the early years of development for Dragon Age: The Veilguard were marked by some behind-the-scenes issues and restarts, with BioWare taking a bit longer to arrive at the exclusively single-player vision for the game that they ultimately chose.
The scale of The Veilguard seems undeniably very large. With over 140,000 recorded lines of dialogue, it surpasses all past BioWare titles, with Dragon Age: Inquisition having 80,000 lines, and Mass Effect: Andromeda with 65,000 (which was more than Mass Effect 2 and 3 combined).
Remember that the release of Dragon Age The Veilguard is scheduled for autumn on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
