Teamfight Tactics: Riot Games Showcases the Magic & Mayhem Update

The Charm of a Cursed Journey

Riot Games offers a first look at Magic and Pandemonium, an update available from July 31 in Teamfight Tactics. The LAN Macao Open event will take place from December 13 to 15, 2024.

In Magic and Pandemonium, players will explore the Magitorium, a castle full of curiosities where unlimited magic and boundless imagination meet. Teamfight Tactics: Magic and Pandemonium will be released on PC and mobile devices on July 31, 2024, and will be free for all players. On July 14, during the Tactician’s Crown TFT finals, Riot Games previewed the main gameplay content coming with Magic and Pandemonium, such as mechanics, traits, Augments, and champions, including three new characters. The company also announced the next international LAN event, which will take place in Macao, China, from December 13 to 15, 2024.

Below is the developer trailer, followed by all the details of the update.

Below are the details, from the official press release:

Magic and Pandemonium will feature several fan-favorite champions from other beloved Riot Games titles. Norra, the iconic Yordle from Legends of Runeterra, Riot’s strategic card game, will make her debut in TFT as the companion of her best friend Yuumi. The new League of Legends champions, Briar and Smolder, will also set foot on the Convergence for the first time. Additionally, TFT has collaborated with League of Legends: Wild Rift, Riot’s mobile game, for the Chrononaut skin line, which first appeared on Wild Rift as Astronomer.

In Magic and Pandemonium, players will have the opportunity to enhance their mastery of magic with the new gameplay mechanic, Hexes, single-use abilities purchasable from the store. The set includes over 100 Hexes, making the gaming experience interesting and allowing players to use all kinds of magic. Hexes perform a wide variety of functions, offering power in combat, economic bonuses, damaging opponents, amplifying traits, and more.

Sam Judd, Lead Designer of the Magic and Pandemonium set at Riot Games, said:

“With its whimsical atmosphere, vibrant colors, and carefree champions, Magic and Pandemonium encapsulates all the positive energy of the summer season. We wanted to create an environment where players could unleash their creativity and demonstrate their mastery of various magical arts alongside the champions they know and love. We can’t wait to open the doors of the Magitorium to them!”

In Magic and Pandemonium, fans will also see several familiar faces from past TFT sets. By popular demand, the champion Fae Milio, who first appeared in TFT in the Revival Set 9.5 New Horizons, and the champions Dragon Nomsy and Shyvana from the 7th set Dragonlands, will return to the battlefield.

The set will include 27 traits, 60 champions, and about 140 new Augments, including the new High-Risk Augments, which encourage a risky but rewarding playstyle in TFT. Additionally, the Magitorium will welcome new strategists, including Lumie (the new Little Legend), her variants, and new variants for the Little Legend Bun Bun. Magic and Pandemonium will also introduce four new Mini Champions, including the base version Mini Miss Fortune, Mini Miss Fortune Battle Bunny, Mini Zed Galactic Slayer, and Mini Gwen Sweet Bistro (prestige edition). Furthermore, players will see the new premium arena Candy and Bunnies Bistro for the first time.

Peter Whalen, Game Director of Teamfight Tactics at Riot Games, said:

“Magic and Pandemonium embodies TFT’s commitment to experimenting with innovative themes and collaborations with other games, without ever losing sight of its extraordinary core gameplay experience. We are excited to see our players showcase their magical skills and discover some fun surprises hidden in the set.”

In addition to the game update information, Riot Games also announced the schedule for the TFT Macao Open (TMO), the second global LAN event that will take place from December 13 to 15, 2024. There will be 512 slots available in this open elimination tournament, where players from around the world will compete for a share of the $300,000 prize pool and the title of TFT Macao Open champion. You can find more information about the event format, prizes, and how to purchase passes on the official website.
