XDefiant: Anime-Themed Skins Coming Soon

XDefiant (you can find our Review here) has been in circulation for almost two months, and Ubisoft continues to modify and balance the game in response to community feedback. The free-to-play shooter exploded when it was released on May 21, but it’s no secret that the player base has already somewhat dried up. However, according to data miners, there’s a lot in the works. Recently, the existence of a series of anime-themed skins coming to XDefiant has emerged; data miners have discovered, among other things, weapon skins in the game files. Soon, Ubisoft might introduce a range of anime skins in XDefiant, according to the data miners. Examples found in the game files include a skin that features a generic anime-style character with purple hair adorning the side of an AA-12 shotgun.

Since XDefiant is a free-to-play shooter, it relies on a business model supported by microtransactions to stay afloat. To this end, players can purchase a battle pass with each new season, as well as pay to unlock various operator skins and weapon camouflages. It’s a proven system that is nothing less than traditional at this point. Fans now wonder whether these anime skins will have anything to do with legitimate crossovers or if they are simply brand-less, AI-generated characters that exist only within that skin. There are potential collaborations in the works, but given how XDefiant operates, they will likely all be related to Ubisoft’s franchise series.
