PlayStation Portal: with the new update, cloud streaming is now available without a PS5.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has initiated a small revolution with the latest update for PlayStation Portal, partially improving the overall experience of the portable console through a new feature that is sure to delight gamers.

The update introduces a beta version of a new function requested by many players, namely support for cloud streaming on PS Portal. Therefore, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can participate in this beta, allowing selected PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus game catalogue to be streamed directly from Sony’s servers, even without a PlayStation 5.

As the cloud streaming (beta) on PS Portal is still experimental, the company has specified that the features available during the beta period may change over time and may not reflect the final experience.

Here are all the features available during the beta test:

  • Streaming of select PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus game catalogue
    • Over 120 PS5 games from the PS Plus catalogue, including DAVE THE DIVER, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, will be accessible on PS Portal via cloud streaming.
  • Streaming up to 1080p/60 fps
  • DualSense wireless controller features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, touchpad (emulated on the PS Portal touchscreen), and motion sensor
  • PlayStation Plus cloud storage
    • Saved data and game progress can be stored up to 100 GB and will be automatically synchronized with the PS5 console, simplifying the transition from local gaming to streaming and across multiple devices.

The new system software update for PlayStation Portal will bring improvements to the audio experience, including:

  • Adjustment of speaker audio output to lower the volume when the audio level is set to minimum
  • You will now be able to adjust your PlayStation Link device settings from the PS Portal Settings menu, optimizing volume and local effect volume.
