The Game Awards: only in 2014 did Sony fail to have at least one game nominated for Game of the Year

With the announcement of all the candidates in various categories to be awarded during The Game Awards 2024, we’ve discovered that for a remarkable 10 consecutive years, Sony Interactive Entertainment has placed at least one of its games among the finalists vying for the Game of the Year statuette.

This is thanks to Astro Bot, a title that, in addition to this year’s GOTY nomination, has received the most nominations overall, along with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Thus, Sony has achieved this prestigious record by placing at least one game among the GOTY contenders from the 2015 edition through to the 2024 edition, skipping only the 2014 edition, when it failed to secure a single nomination for the GOTY award.

Here are Sony’s GOTY candidates from 2015 to 2024:

  • 2015 – Bloodborne
  • 2016 – Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • 2017 – Horizon Zero Dawn
  • 2018 – Marvel’s Spider-Man – God of War
  • 2019 – Death Stranding
  • 2020 – Ghost of Tsushima – The Last of Us Part II
  • 2021 – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • 2022 – Horizon Forbidden West – God of War Ragnarök
  • 2023 – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • 2024 – Astro Bot

Between 2015 and 2023, out of 13 nominations, it’s noteworthy that Sony has only lifted the Game of the Year statuette twice at The Game Awards: in 2018 with God of War and in 2020 with The Last of Us Part II. Will Astro Bot bring home the third GOTY award for a Sony title? We’ll find out on December 13, 2024, starting at 1:30 PM CET.
