According to recent announcements, Apple released the new M4 chip earlier this year alongside the new OLED iPad Pro models, and the chip has received further updates for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The company has big plans for the M4 chip, especially after officially introducing Apple Intelligence to the public. A new source suggests that Apple intends to use its M4 chips in Apple Intelligence servers next year, replacing the company’s M2 Ultra chips. It remains to be seen which variant of the M4 chip the company will use for its servers, but based on its trends and the growing user base of Apple Intelligence, another piece of evidence supporting this theory comes from the company’s past tendencies, which have seen it use the M2 Ultra chip instead of the ‘Pro’ or ‘Max’ variant. Apple has yet to announce its highly anticipated M4 Ultra chip, but previous rumours suggested that the company would debut the chipset in the second half of 2025.
The M4 Ultra chip will be launched alongside the introduction of new Mac Pro and Mac Studio models, and the chipset is expected to deliver significant computational gains and massive upgrades in graphics performance. It is anticipated that the chip will outperform Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 in both OpenCL and Vulkan APIs, making the SoC the perfect choice for the company.
