According to InsiderGaming, Sony will utilize Artificial Intelligence to develop its upcoming titles faster and also enable its consoles to learn automatically. In a report, the company states:
Support technologies that can help creators engage effectively to maximize the value of their intellectual property in efficient and high-quality ways, including detection and acquisition, as well as real-time 3D processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning quickly and at a lower cost to a wider range of fans.
Sony has revealed that it used machine learning in the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by applying voice recognition software in certain languages. This allowed them to generate subtitles for each character’s dialogue, “significantly shortening the subtitling process.” Additionally, by using their Volumetric Capture Studio, they can generate 3D data from people and locations to create high-quality images. Below is the statement:
Moving forward, we plan to apply high-quality 3D assets, including motion data from our Studio, accumulated from each of our companies across the Group, and explore potential external sales opportunities. In real-time 3D processing, we are conducting exploratory activities with Epic Games, focused on Unreal Engine, developed as a physics engine for generating CG for games. For instance, we reused 3DCG components from a music video filmed using virtual production to create a game set in the same world and released a proof-of-concept short film based on CG using Unreal Engine.
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly expanding into every field, but after the recent events regarding various lay-offs in different sectors, will it truly be a new frontier for human growth or is our future in the hands of machines? What do you think? Stay tuned for more updates.
