It’s time for some changes at Ubisoft. Julian Gerighty, director of Star Wars Outlaws, has been assigned to The Division 3. He shared this news himself in a recent interview with Stephen Totilo, also clarifying that he won’t be completely stepping away from the previous project. While he assures the quality of Massive’s work, Gerighty will supervise the upcoming post-launch content, which is set to arrive soon.
Let’s remember that Star Wars Outlaws was released this August on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. Despite the promising start, the game received a much cooler reception than expected. There were numerous criticisms aimed at the game, ranging from technical issues (like inconsistent frame rates) to gameplay concerns (such as an AI that didn’t always meet expectations and a lackluster gameplay loop). A series of average reviews ultimately affected the game’s sales performance (as Gerighty himself confirmed). Overall, it fell below Ubisoft’s hopes.
Adding to the trouble was an issue that arose with patches following Day One. The fix ended up rendering the save files of users with a deluxe edition useless. Not a big deal? It depends. Those who had obtained the deluxe edition had enjoyed three days of early access to the title. Consequently, these gamers found themselves reset when they were already well into the game. This setback prompted Ubisoft to offer discounts on purchases made in its digital store as compensation.
The Division 3 is still in the very early stages of development.
