Hideo Kojima: it’s all or nothing with OD. “It’s risky and unlike anything else.”

It wasn’t just Death Stranding 2 at the Tokyo Game Show. Interviewed by Variety, Hideo Kojima has slightly opened up about OD. Previously known as ‘OverDose,’ the project remains shrouded in mystery. The only information we currently have is official. We know it will be a horror story and will be developed in collaboration with Microsoft, who will provide the Cloud technology.

What’s new from Kojima? The game director reiterated that this upcoming project is a risky venture for his career. He has accustomed us to expect the unexpected through his constant gameplay experimentation. Regarding OD, for example, he previously mentioned that this was a game he had dreamed of making for a long time but did not have the right technology to do so. It seems clear that xCloud will play a vital role in this whole story. It’s risky. It’s a challenge for me as a developer because it’s something no one has ever done,” said the creator of Metal Gear Solid.

OD was officially introduced during the latest Game Awards. At that time, we also learned about the involvement of director Jordan Peele: an actor (known for his comedic sketches with Keegan Michael Key) and a talented horror director, responsible for recent hits like Us, Get Out, and Nope…

On the work front, Hideo Kojima also has a third project in the pipeline. It’s called Physint, which will see him collaborating with PlayStation.
