Dragon Age The Veilguard: director speaks out against Inquisition, “that final DLC was a terrible idea”

Corinne Busche is not holding back when it comes to her former colleagues. The game director behind Dragon Age The Veilguard (formerly known as Dreadwolf) recently shared some thoughts on Trespasser, the final DLC that wrapped up the story of Dragon Age Inquisition. Why is she concerned about it now? It’s simple: The Veilguard has its roots in that optional content that was released nearly 10 years ago.

Trespasser contains the premises that will lead to the creation of Dragon Age The Veilguard. This is where we witness the major transformation of Solas, which is then realized in the game set to release on October 31, 2024. According to Busche, presenting such a significant part of the story as optional content may make it challenging for those who haven’t experienced it to engage with the sequel.

The change the character undergoes between the base game and the DLC is indeed quite pronounced. While it’s true that the main ending of Inquisition might hint at something unusual, the logical leap required from that moment to The Veilguard without experiencing Trespasser could be quite tricky.

Busche hopes that among the 12 million players who purchased Inquisition (according to the latest reports), there are enough who have played Trespasser. For everyone else, it might be worth considering a deep dive online. Remember, The Veilguard will be out on October 31, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. Recent rumours suggest that EA might be considering a demo launch before the release.
