Serum: the biggest update for early access is now available

Game Island, in collaboration with Toplitz Productions, has released a new update for the survival adventure Serum: it is the largest content update so far since it became available in early access back in May.

Here’s a summary of the patch 6 updates:

  • 23 Steam achievements: expanded player rewards.
  • Custom difficulty mode: players can now adjust the challenge level of the game.
  • Combat traps: new sharp, piercing, and blunt traps provide more tactical options.
  • General fixes and improvements: enhancements to inventory, missions, graphics, and performance optimization.
  • Extended language support: additional languages beyond the current 9.
  • Future plans: upcoming 4-player cooperative mode and a new canyon biome.

Since its early access launch on PC in May, the Game Island team has expanded and improved the game’s features through five previous updates. The latest update with patch 6 is one of the most substantial, adding 23 Steam achievements that players can earn during their loot, crafting, recycling, and combat sessions against various mutated creatures. The patch also introduces a custom difficulty mode, allowing players to choose the challenge level that best suits their play style. Additionally, this update includes a new survival tool: combat traps, previously teased in the early access roadmap.

Looking ahead, Serum’s early access roadmap includes the introduction of a 4-player cooperative mode by the end of the year, along with a new level set in a canyon, featuring new mutated enemies and further revelations about the mutagen that lies at the heart of the main storyline and missions of the game.
