Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox? Microsoft is reportedly gearing up for a surprise at the Tokyo Game Show

We know that Microsoft will be present at the Tokyo Game Show with a series of events dedicated to Xbox. We have published a substantial recap right here. What we don’t know is what surprises await those who follow the event from September 26 to 29. According to insiders, the real gem will be the announcement of Final Fantasy XVI coming to Series X and Series S, along with possibly other games from the franchise.

The reason for such strong conviction from experts is explained by a series of factors to consider. Firstly, the announcement last year that several entries in the Square Enix franchise would be making their way to Xbox. It was July 2023, during the annual event dedicated to FFXIV.

On stage, between Naoki Yoshida and Takashi Kiryu (newly appointed CEO of Square Enix), Phil Spencer surprised everyone with an appearance, announcing a renewed spirit of collaboration between the two entities, which would lead to FF14 coming to Xbox immediately, along with other IPs. The handshake among the three was historic.

Let’s fast-forward to recent days. This time, Hiroski Takai, the director of Final Fantasy XVI, is speaking. While not confirming the arrival on Xbox, the developer suggests that Square Enix has at least considered the possibility.

The spotlight has recently shifted to Jez Corden. The expert made some intriguing statements during his podcast. According to Corden, Microsoft isn’t just focusing on Final Fantasy XVI. Various parts of the FF VII remake are also under consideration, as well as the Pixel Remastered (which includes the first six chapters). However, Corden recommends we shouldn’t expect too close release dates. It’s possible, he says, that Pixel Remaster could precede Final Fantasy XVI by a little, while 7Remake would follow.
