Hideaki Itsuno, renowned game director of Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, has announced that at the end of August 2024 (basically right around now), he will be leaving Capcom after exactly 30 years, having joined the Japanese company back in 1994.
The news came via X from Itsuno himself, accompanied by a lengthy message:
“I have an announcement for all my followers: at the end of August 2024, I will leave Capcom after 30 years and 5 months. Thank you all for your long-term support for the games and characters I’ve been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters. Starting in September, I will begin developing a new game in a new environment. I aim to create fun and beautiful games that are as memorable, if not more so, than those, I’ve made so far. Stay tuned for more information about my next creation!”
Following in Hideki Kamiya’s footsteps as game director since Devil May Cry 2 and the subsequent titles, it’s worth noting that Itsuno also directed Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma 2, in addition to working on various other games, including JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
We do not know where Hideaki will land or what kind of game he intends to develop. But we are sure that we will find out very soon! Meanwhile, with his departure from Capcom, the chances of seeing a new instalment of Devil May Cry have drastically decreased.
