“The game begins: the real one” is the tagline for season 2 of Squid Game, for which we show you the first teaser trailer and which Netflix officially announces will arrive on December 26, exclusively on its platform. The third season, which will be the final one, will arrive during 2025. Hwang Dong-hyuk (director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game) officially commented:
“Almost three years have passed since the first season sparked extraordinary enthusiasm all over the world, accompanied by a series of incredible events. It is with deep emotion that I write this letter to announce the release date of the second season and to announce the third, which will conclude the series. I remember on the first day of shooting the second season I thought: ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal. I wonder how you will feel as well upon your return to Squid Game three years later.”
The director also shared a hint of the synopsis for the second season:
“After swearing revenge at the end of the first season, Seong Gi-hun returns to the game. Will he be able to settle the scores? This time, too, the Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent. The fierce clash between their worlds will continue in the series finale with the third season coming next year. I am excited to see how the seed planted with the conception of Squid Game is growing and will bear fruit until the conclusion of the story. We will do our best to take you on another exhilarating journey. I really hope you can’t wait to see what awaits you.
Thank you as always and see you soon.”
