Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, during the earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, responded to rumors about a possible partnership between FIFA and 2K Sports.
During the call, a specific question was raised regarding the company’s interest in creating a football simulation related to FIFA. Initially, Zelnick emphasized the presence in football with Top Eleven, a mobile management game, before making it clear how difficult it is and how much time is required to build a great simulation experience on console. Moreover, the FIFA license differs from traditional American leagues, such as the NFL, NBA, and MLB, “It does not come with players, teams, or leagues,” he said, adding that it is more complex to negotiate compared to the aforementioned U.S. leagues. “For anyone wanting to compete in the direct simulation environment for football, it is not enough to rely on a particular brand license.”
Zelnick emphasized that the company is satisfied with the sports titles it offers, without ruling out a potential future agreement. “I am sure we will make further announcements in due time,” were his words.
It should be noted that for some time there have been rumors regarding a new FIFA branded 2K Sports, such as retailer MohPlay Inc, which in May spoke of confirmation: “2K has secured the official FIFA license to create the next FIFA video game! The partnership is confirmed, and 2K will develop a new series of football games. FIFA 2K25 will be launched this year, just in time for the FIFA World Cup 2K26!” were the words of the post on X.
But we can only wait for any confirmations regarding this partnership.
